Megamedia Australia Relaunched as Ellipse Studios

Date: August 25, 1999

In a management buyout, the Adelaide game developer Megamedia Australia has relaunched as Ellipse Studios.

"We felt that as game development hasn't been the core focus for our parent Megamedia and that as they are based in the US it was more appropriate to separate the studio entirely" said Raaj Menon, Managing Director of Ellipse Studios. "This way the staff of Ellipse own the titles we are developing and there are greater long-term rewards."

Ellipse Studios previously developed Ancient Conquest and is part-way through development of Submarine Titans, a totally underwater real-time strategy with unprecendented 3D effects and support for up to 24 simultaneous players.

The changeover from Megamedia Australia to Ellipse Studios has taken place over the last few weeks with the new corporate site located at www.ellipsestudios.com.

"The staff has been very excited about this change and are fully supporting the new organization," said Raaj. "We have full control over all the gaming titles in development and this places us in a much more flexible position for future title development."

Ellipse Studios retains ownership of Ancient Conquest, Submarine Titans and all other games currently under development.

Re:Action Entertainment announces Ancient Conquest, The Next Evolution in Real Time Strategy Gaming

Toronto, Ontario—April 7, 1999-- Re:Action Entertainment, the new action/strategy label from publisher DreamCatcher Interactive is proud to announce the upcoming release of the much anticipated real-time-strategy game, Ancient Conquest from developer Megamedia Australia.

Inspired by the legends, gods and myths of Greek Mythology, Ancient Conquest is the story of Jason, a Greek hero who must sail to a distant island to find and retrieve the Golden Fleece to lift a curse that has been laid upon his land.

In Ancient Conquest, players sail upon the high seas of Ancient Greece where brute force and strength alone are not enough. Throughout your journey you must recruit other heroes to help you on your quest. Their skills will help you on your journey and aid in your epic battles to defeat barbarians and Persians who robbed you of your ships and settlements.

To reach the objective, players build their navy, including the legendary ship Argo, and earn money while exploring and managing resources, such as amber, fish and Leviathans. Only those with keenest strategic minds and sharpest wits will survive natural disasters and battle mythical creatures such as the horrible Medusa, the Cyclops, Minotaurs, Sea-Serpents, Wizards and the beautiful but deadly Sirens.

Raaj Menon of Megamedia Australia, Ancient Conquest’s developer says, “A huge groundswell of support is building surrounding the anticipated release of Ancient Conquest.  Tens of thousands of players are enjoying the demo available from our website, and fans have been playing the heck out of the game in multiplayer. Real Time Strategy gamers have been begging for something different, and Ancient Conquest delivers.”

Shocked.Net exclaims, "Ancient Conquest combines superb gameplay and innovative concept into a game that definitely breathes new life into a rather stagnant RTS genre.”

“If Age of Empires and Total Annihilation ever had a child, his name would be Ancient Conquest,” says 3Dgaming.Net

WarZone describes Ancient Conquest as “a refreshing departure from the "tank rush" approach found in strategy titles,” and “a great deal more here than just a pretty face.”

GODS describes Ancient Conquest’s advanced AI system best when they said, “The AI in this game comes at you with a vengeance, and puts even the most grizzled veterans of RTS games on their ass.” Not only does the AI play a crucial element in making Ancient Conquest a killer single player title, but with the ability for the computer to take the place of players who drop out of multiplayer matches, the fun doesn’t quit even when your human opponent does.

Hardcore strategy gamers and newcomers alike will appreciate the games intuitive, easy-to-learn player interface. Gamers will enjoy virtually unlimited replay value by creating their own exciting and challenging missions with the easy to use custom scenario editor that’s included with the game. It’s no wonder that GameSpot gave it a perfect 5/5 rating.

Beautifully detailed in high resolution graphics, Ancient Conquest includes 14 missions in the primary, Golden Fleece campaign and over 40 additional custom missions.

For those eager to test their mettle and match up for on-line gameplay, Ancient Conquest features multiplayer support for up to 8 players through TCP/IP (Internet), IPX, modem and serial cable connections.

Scheduled for release this spring, Ancient Conquest will be available at retailers and computer specialty stores throughout North America for a suggested retail price of $29.99.
